L'ISO 306:2013 spécifie quatre méthodes de détermination de la température de ramollissement Vicat (VST) des matières thermoplastiques:
- méthode A50 utilisant une charge de 10 N et une vitesse d'échauffement de 50 K/h;
- méthode B50 utilisant une charge de 50 N et une vitesse d'échauffement de 50 K/h;
- méthode A120 utilisant une charge de 10 N et une vitesse d'échauffement de 120 K/h;
- méthode B120 utilisant une charge de 50 N et une vitesse d'échauffement de 120 K/h.
Les méthodes spécifiées sont uniquement applicables aux thermoplastiques. Elles permettent de mesurer la température à laquelle le ramollissement de ces matières devient rapide.
