This Handbook is written for the users of simple length and angle measuring equipment in industry. A number of commonly used instruments are discussed, (including measuring rules and tapes, micrometers, callipers, protractors and gauges and screw thread gauges). The Handbook covers such topics as selecting the right instrument for the application, precautions to be observed in use and storage and what checks the user can carry out to ensure that the instrument is still capable of providing the required 'accuracy'. Reference is made to Part 1 for details on 'accuracy', 'uncertainty of measurement', and why instruments need to be calibrated, and, in this Part, some approaches to calibration are described.
