These Requirements cover portable safety containers intended for the temporary storage and handling of small quantities (up to 25 L) of flammable and combustible liquids such as gasoline, fuel oil, or similar products with a relative density not greater than 1.0. These containers are intended for use in accordance with the following:
- National Fire Code of Canada, Part 4;
- The Requirements of the Authority Having Jurisdiction.
These Requirements cover safety containers of two types, designated herein as Type I and Type II as follows:
- Type I safety containers are those constructed with a short valved spout which may be adapted to both pouring and filling;
- Type II safety containers are those equipped with a flexible or a rigid tubular nozzle attached to a valved spout adapted to pouring only. This type of safety container may also be designated as a "Supply Can" or "Filling Can".
