Specification for the accuracy of machine tools and methods of tests – Milling machines, knee and column type, horizontal or vertical spindle plain

This Part of this British Standard specifies requirements for the accuracy of knee and column type plain milling machines with horizontal or vertical spindle by establishing permissable deviations from certain essential dimensional and geometrical characteristics, and by prescribing, by reference to BS 3800, the details of the tests to be carried out to verify compliance with these requirements for machines in general use and of normal precision.
The standard deals only with the verification of accuracy, and does not apply to the testing of the running of the machine (vibrations, abnormal noises, stick-slip motion of components etc.), nor to machine characteristics (speeds, feeds etc.) which should generally be checked before testing accuracy. Definitions and terminology are given in Appendix C.
NOTE The title of the British Standard referred to in this standard is given on page ii.
Specifies accuracy requirements and geometrical tests with reference to BS 3800. Relates to machines in general use and of normal precision. Does not apply to testing of the running of the machine (vibrations, abnormal noises, stick-slip motion of components, etc.) or to machine characteristics such as feeds, speeds etc. Appendix C contains terminology that is technically equivalent to ISO 1701/0
