This Part of BS 9000 specifies the procedures and requirements for the granting of qualification approval to manufacturers and class A integrated circuit (IC) design houses under the System.

Approved class A IC design houses (see BS 9000 : Part 4) are included in the term ‘approved manufacturer’ in this standard where the requirements apply to such design houses. Requirements specific to approved IC design houses are given in clause 6 of BS 9000 : Part 4 : 1989.
