Typically, fiber optic interconnecting<br \/>\ndevices are most commonly tested by this method, but the<br \/>\nmethodology can be applied to various other types of fiber optic<br \/>\ncomponents.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alternative Method.<\/strong> This test is similar to<br \/>\nthat prescribed by FOTP-190, except that specimens tested under<br \/>\nFOTP-190 are not immersed in water during low pressure exposure.<br \/>\nAlso , FOTP-190 provides a wider choice of test pressures than does<br \/>\nFOTP-15.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Failure Modes<\/strong>. The potential failure modes for<br \/>\nthis test include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<p>a. Unacceptable changes in optical transmittance,<\/p>\n<p>b. Unacceptable changes in insertion loss,<\/p>\n<p>c. Unacceptable changes in return loss,<\/p>\n<p>d. Damage to device seals.,<\/p>\n<p>e. Other failure modes (such as changes in engagement and<br \/>\nseparation forces) may be specified by the Detail<br \/>\nSpecification.<\/p>\n<p><sup>1<\/sup>This method is similar to Method 1004.1 of<br \/>\nMIL-STD-1344.
