It defines:<\/p>\n<p>Section 2 Normative References<\/p>\n<p>Section 3 Signal Characteristics<\/p>\n<p>Section 4 Interface Mechanical Characteristics<\/p>\n<p>Section 5 Functional Description of Interchange Circuits<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the standard includes:<\/p>\n<p>Section 6 Recommendations and Explanatory Notes<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This standard applies where equipment on one side of the DTE\/DCE<br \/>\ninterface is intended for connection directly to equipment on the<br \/>\nother side without additional technical considerations.<br \/>\nApplications where cable termination, signal waveshaping,<br \/>\ninterconnection cable distance, and mechanical configurations of<br \/>\nthe interface must be tailored to meet specific user needs are not<br \/>\nprecluded but are beyond the scope of this standard.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Serialization<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This standard applies to data communication systems where the<br \/>\ndata is bit serialized.
