ESDU 82028 provides a simple graphical means of estimating the pressure drag of the forebodies for any flight Mach number above 3. For cone semi-apex angles between 0 and 40 degrees the charts cover a wide range of blunting, varying from a sharp cone to a spherically-curved face, while for cone semi-apex angles of 40 up to 90 degrees a single chart applies to sharp or moderately-blunted cones (nose radius/base radius less than 0.5). The charts were derived largely from potential flow calculations. However, for a considerable range of flow conditions boundary layer effects were found to be small and the data are a good approximation to the total forebody drag in such conditions.
